USE OF FORCE
With Jeff Chudwin Although use of force is covered in Phase 2 for the IL CCW, many of you often have questions after you leave the class and have time to think about it. This class will answer those questions. We will review everyday scenarios and discuss whether you are legally permitted to draw your weapon. Jeff Chudwin retired as Chief of Police for the Village of Olympia Fields, Illinois. He has been a law enforcement officer since 1974. A 1977 graduate of DePaul University Law School, Jeff served as an assistant state`s attorney for Will and Cook Counties. Since 1978, he has trained police officers on use of force issues, tactical firearms, and officer survival. As an attorney and career peace officer, he writes for several law enforcement publications regarding police use of force, firearms training, patrol functions, and tactical operations. |

Illinois CCW Phase 1:
This course provides 8 hours of classroom training towards the Illinois 16 hour training requirement. It will focus on shooting fundamentals such as grip, stance, breath control, sight alignment, and trigger pull. Nomenclature, care, cleaning, loading and unloading of a firearm, firearm safety rules, basic handgun operation, and handling of the firearm as well as transporting and storing a firearm are all covered. Students are encouraged to take notes. |

Illinois CCW Phase 2:
This course provides 8 hours of training towards the Illinois 16 hour training requirement. It will focus on State and Federal law consisting of storage, carrying, and transportation of a firearm. This course will also focus a large portion on Use of Force. Students are encouraged to take notes. Students will qualify at Rink`s Gun and Sport, 14363 Archer, Lockport. The classroom portion will be at TSI located at 9700 W 197th St, Suite 109, Mokena. Several days prior to class you will receive an email notifying you which location to report to at 8am. Your firearm and ammunition are NOT allowed into the classroom, leave them locked in your vehicle. Students will need to bring a firearm (if you have one) and at least 30 rounds of ammunition (you can share your firearm with others in your group if you choose but cannot be in the same firing line at the range) for qualification. There is not a minimum or maximum caliber required for qualification (you are not required to qualify with the firearm that you will be carrying). We encourage participants to bring 3 magazines with 10 rounds loaded in each. Please do not bring a single action only revolver, meaning you would need your thumb to cock the hammer for each trigger pull. Participants must have eye and ear protection and pay the $10 range fee (eye and ear protection may be available at the range for a small fee). Illinois Livescan Fingerprinting will be provided for $40. For the range qualification - Participants do not need to bring a concealment holster to class. You will not be drawing from a concealment position at the range. Students must score a minimum of 70% to pass. You will be shooting 10 rounds at 5 yards, 10 rounds at 7 yards, and 10 rounds at 10 yards. We will be using a B-27 Silhouette target. You will need 21 hits out of 30 rounds in the black portion of the silhouette. The B-27 target will be provided by Tactical Security Institute. |

Course Description: This 1-day firearms training course focuses on introducing students to aggressive gun-handling skills and developing combat mindset. The concepts of dominating the weapon and threat while moving off the line of force will be emphasized throughout the class.
Students will also develop reflexive skills that will enable them to efficiently engage threats while performing multiple complex tasks. • Safety Rules • Concealed Draws w/Full Presentation (Slow/Smooth to Smooth/Fast) • Diagnostic Drill • Malfunction Drills (Ball & Dummy) • Reload Drills (Tactical & Emergency using cover whenever possible) • Move Off-Center (Scan-Assess-360) • Pivot Drills (90 & 180) • Protective Pistol Qual (includes barricades, moving off-center, standing/kneeling, & reloading behind cover Course duration: 1 day (8 hours) Course tuition: $ 125.00 (Tuition fee does not include $25.00 range fees paid at the range CASH ONLY) Course student limit: 16 Student requirements: Notepad and pen, eye protection, ear protection, baseball type cap, heavy pants belt with holster and magazine carriers, personal defense pistol with at least (2) magazines, knee & elbow pads. Recommended equipment: Rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks and water. Ammunition requirements: 250 rounds (minimum) Participants will be be traveling to an outdoor range for the shooting portion of the class. |
