Illinois CCW Phase 1:

This course provides 8 hours of classroom training towards the Illinois 16 hour training requirement. It will focus on shooting fundamentals such as grip, stance, breath control, sight alignment, and trigger pull. Nomenclature, care, cleaning, loading and unloading of a firearm, firearm safety rules, basic handgun operation, and handling of the firearm as well as transporting and storing a firearm are all covered.

Students are encouraged to take notes.

Illinois CCW Phase 2:

This course provides 8 hours of training towards the Illinois 16 hour training requirement. It will focus on State and Federal law consisting of storage, carrying, and transportation of a firearm. This course will also focus a large portion on Use of Force. Students are encouraged to take notes.

Students will qualify at Rink`s Gun and Sport, 14363 Archer, Lockport. The classroom portion will be at TSI located at 9700 W 197th St, Suite 109, Mokena. Several days prior to class you will receive an email notifying you which location to report to at 8am.

Your firearm and ammunition are NOT allowed into the classroom, leave them locked in your vehicle.

Students will need to bring a firearm (if you have one) and at least 30 rounds of ammunition (you can share your firearm with others in your group if you choose but cannot be in the same firing line at the range) for qualification. There is not a minimum or maximum caliber required for qualification (you are not required to qualify with the firearm that you will be carrying). We encourage participants to bring 3 magazines with 10 rounds loaded in each. Please do not bring a single action only revolver, meaning you would need your thumb to cock the hammer for each trigger pull. Participants must have eye and ear protection and pay the $10 range fee (eye and ear protection may be available at the range for a small fee).

Illinois Livescan Fingerprinting will be provided for $40.

For the range qualification - Participants do not need to bring a concealment holster to class. You will not be drawing from a concealment position at the range. Students must score a minimum of 70% to pass. You will be shooting 10 rounds at 5 yards, 10 rounds at 7 yards, and 10 rounds at 10 yards. We will be using a B-27 Silhouette target. You will need 21 hits out of 30 rounds in the black portion of the silhouette. The B-27 target will be provided by Tactical Security Institute.

Jeff Chudwin retired as Chief of Police for the Village of Olympia Fields, Illinois. He has been a law enforcement officer since 1974. A 1977 graduate of DePaul University Law School, Jeff served as an assistant state`s attorney for Will and Cook Counties. Since 1978, he has trained police officers on use of force issues, tactical firearms, and officer survival. As an attorney and career peace officer, he writes for several law enforcement publications regarding police use of force, firearms training, patrol functions, and tactical operations.

We will also be utilizing a training simulator to experience a shoot/don`t shoot scenario (as seen on Guns&Ammo).

Happy Mother`s Day

TSI is presenting a four-hour overview of the AR-15 rifle - carbine system for all shooters who make use of or maintain this weapon system for work or personal use.

The instructors for this class are Jeff Chudwin and Kim Heath. Both are long serving law enforcement officers and trainers who instruct the AR-15/M-16 shooting schools and armorer classes at the regional and national level. They write for various firearms and law enforcement magazines and regularly appear on the “At the Range” segments on Guns and Ammo television. Both instructors use the AR system in competition and for duty use and have over sixty years of combined experience.

Students will be instructed in and practice disassembly and reassembly of the component parts of the upper and lower receiver. Students will identify and trouble shoot malfunctions and mechanical failures.

This is ordinarily a full day class that we are offering in a compressed four-hour format as an introduction to the AR-15 system.

Please bring the following:

1. clear safety glasses or shatter proof prescription glasses MANDATORY!
2. small hammer
3. old bath towel for working surface / shop towel(s)
4. medium size safety pin (to remove gas rings)
5. 1/8 inch pin punch
6. 3/16 inch Allen Wrench – Length 4 “ to remove cap type pistol grip screws, OR
7. long shank flat blade screw driver, 4" minimum to remove slot type pistol grip
screws
8. roll of black electrical tape
9. small flashlight

Check the type of pistol grip screw in your rifle/carbine and you need only bring the screw driver or Allen wrench to fit it.

Protective clear safety glasses will be worn at all times and must be brought by the student. Shatter proof corrective lens are acceptable wear.

All students must bring to the class a .223 / 5.56 mm AR-15 rifle/carbine for the class. None will be provided unless otherwise arranged with the instructors. Please do not bring any other caliber AR type firearm.

A D/I gas system (standard AR-15/M-16 gas system) is required for the class. Do not bring a piston type AR.

ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES will be strictly enforced and adhered to at all times.

NO LIVE RIFLE AMMO WILL BE PERMITTED IN THE TRAINING AREA.
